Goals for the week
- Keep reading Relph – I need to get through more of it
- Keep developing updated graphics – begin with the character, THIS WEEK then the setting… with a view to then creating a new prototype that has all my own assets in it
- Continue developing a time-space framework
Main thing:
Read – write – make
This week, I think I need to start making stuff again…

At the most basic, high level, the project is arranged around the idea of a frame story as well as museum design.
Frame Story
From a structural stand point, the useful part is:
- The frame
- The framed story(ies)
- Return to the frame
This is outlined below.
For this project, I like the structure where there is the
The frame story also has things going on – e.g. it’s not just an empty container…
- The frame (overworld)
- The framed story(ies) (gamelets)
- Return to the frame (overworld)
Literary examples
- One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights)
- The Canterbury tales
- Frankenstein
- Wuthering Heights
- The Prncess Bride
Having read some, the think I find can get annoying is when it is made achingly obvious thats whats happening which The Prncess Bride tends to do… Its kind of breaking the fourth wall which I find tacky – but thats me!
There is no reason the framed story beeds to be thematicly linked the the frame story or indeed the other framed stories, but why not!
Museum
I like the way the Melbourne Museum has the atrium/greeting hall, then it branches off to the key areas, like branches off a main trunk. In this way, it is like a frame story. Then, within each section, there are specific exhibits. These would be like the ‘framed stories’.
So, this idea combines both of these approaches as an over arching structural organising principle.
There are a few GameBoy (and other) game examples – Animal Crossing –
